Tanning Advice 101

Our tribe are perfectionists, fact. So, it’ll come as no surprise to read they ask a ton of Qs on the regular.

Here are some of their most frequently asked questions.

IF I HAVE A ST. MORIZ TAN DO I NEED TO WEAR SUNSCREEN?
Yes, 100%. In fact, the higher your protection, the better. Sunscreen moisturizes your skin and keeps your faux glow looking flawless. Just remember to pick a non-oily product.
HOW DO I KNOW WHICH PRODUCT OR COLOR TO USE?
Achieving your #TanGoal is easier than you imagine. We recommend a lotion based tan for mature or dry skin; a mousse for beginners or people with oily/
normal skin; Fast Tan for a quick-developing glow or a mist for speedy application. Our tanning drops - Tan boosting serum - are for everyone, and especially for the face!
HOW CAN I AVOID A STREAKY TAN?
We’ve got your back here. Prepare by exfoliating up to 24 hours before tanning – this gives your skin time to settle and your pores a chance to close. Before tanning use an oil free moisturizer, then when you’re ready, apply tan in small sections (we start with the legs) and always use a mitt.
I DON’T WANT TO TURN ORANGE, HOW DO I AVOID THIS?
We have all been there sista. Luckily, our products have been specifically formulated to give you a natural glowing tan tone, so you don’t have to worry about turning the same color as a Cheeto!
HOW LONG SHOULD I FEEL STICKY FOR AFTER
I HAVE APPLIED A TAN?
Only a few moments while the tan dries and settles into your skin. If you still feel sticky later on it’s because you’ve applied too much on the first application. We advise applying small amounts working in sections to improve your overall tanning experience.
HOW LONG DOES THE ‘TAN’ SMELL LAST FOR?
When you begin, there should be no strong ‘tan’ smell. One may develop with
your glow, but it’ll disappear after showering. Then, we recommend slathering
on your fave, oil-free moisturizer for an extra bit of self-love.
CAN I USE ST. MORIZ ON MY FACE?
Yes - check out our New Tan-boosting serum! Simply mix 3-6 drops with your favorite moisturizer and apply on your face and neck. We do that as part of our night skincare routine and wake up with gorgeous glow! Make sure to wash your hands immediately after.
HOW CAN I STOP MY TAN GOING PATCHY AS IT FADES?
Easy - moisturize daily, keeping your skin hydrated will keep your tan smooth and silky, on day two/three lightly exfoliate.
HOW OFTEN CAN I REAPPLY ST. MORIZ?
As often as you like! But, do make sure to wash off the guide color between applications.
I SOMETIMES GET DARK SPOTS ON MY LEGS AFTER TANNING, WHAT
SHALL I DO?
Dark spots appear when the tan has settled into your pores. Don’t tan straight after a shower as this is when your pores open - allow time for your skin to settle before tanning. The same applies for shaving your legs, do this the day/night before and have a go at shaving your legs with conditioner - it works a treat for us.
WHAT ABOUT MY FEET AND ANKLES - ISN’T THAT A TELL-TALE SIGN
OF A FAKE TAN?
Simply moisturize feet, ankles, knees and elbows before applying, no one will ever know your tan isn’t from a fortnight in Barbados! We’d also recommend, when tanning these areas to use the excess tan left over on the mitt.
HOW DO I REMOVE MY TAN?
Have a long soak in an oily bath - baby oil is good (careful not to slip!). We also like to use an exfoliation scrub and gloves to help remove those difficult bits.
WHAT IF IT COMES OFF ONTO MY BEDDING AND CLOTHES?
Don’t worry our products are water based and therefore the tan should easily wash out. Usually it is the guide color that comes off on bedding and clothes therefore, lay an old bed sheet or towel down for the first night and wear dark loose clothing whilst your tan develops. Once you’ve showered the guide color off you should be okay. More delicate fabrics like silk are ones to be wary of, if you are wearing an item of clothing that is made of a delicate fabric have a couple of showers beforehand to ensure all excess color has been removed
from your skin.
HOW CAN I ENSURE MY TAN LASTS LONGER?
The secret is exfoliating before you tan, removing all the dead skin will allow your tan to develop better and last for longer. Once your tan has developed and you have showered, moisturize every day with oil free moisturizer.
